Our Work

Our Mission

Our mission is to supply food and grocery products to a network of food pantries in an five county area.  As He multiplied the Loaves and Fishes, we can feed the hungry in our area.

Who We Are

The Peoria Area Food Bank operates under the umbrella of Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, Inc., a community action agency, and is a partner distribution organization with Eastern Illinois Food Bank, a member of Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest) the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, and Feeding Illinois, a state organization serving Central Illinois.  Peoria Area Food Bank was formed in 1984 to supplement the dietary and nutritional needs of low-income families living in the five surrounding counties we serve, which are Fulton, Mason, Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford.

How We Work

Peoria Area Food Bank provides 80 very active pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior housing, and low income day-care centers with large quantities of food from name brand manufactures and USDA commodities on a daily basis. We also operate 3 mobile food pantries throughout our service area and assist nine pantries that provide backpacks to hundreds of children on the weekend. The backpacks are dispersed to qualifying children on Friday afternoon by various schools.
