Assistance Programs

Through programs designed to improve food security for individuals and communities, the Peoria Area Food Bank connects people with more food and resources, and gives them the tools they need to become self-sufficient.

Food Distribution

The Food Bank provides 80 very active pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and senior housing with large quantities of food from name brand manufactures and USDA commodities on a daily basis.  Click here to locate an agency near you.

Mobile Pantries

Through a Mobile Pantry, a truckload of food is distributed to clients in pre-packed boxes or through a farmers market-style distribution where clients choose to take what they need.  We operate 2 mobile food pantries in Mason County and we are starting a pilot program to expand our mobile pantry distribution.

On August 13th, 2018, the food bank hosted a mobile pantry at Madison Park Plaza in front of the former Kroger store in Peoria.  The food bank served 133 households with 493 individuals that day and distributed over 5,000 pounds of food.

The food bank will host another mobile pantry at the same location on September 10th from 10 a.m. until noon.  Our goal is to continue to do these mobile pantries in different locations throughout Peoria and Tazewell counties once a month.  Additional locations, dates and times will be announced as they become available.  If you would like to volunteer to help in the distribution of food at the mobile pantry on September 10th or be put on the list for volunteering at future mobile pantries, please call Jeanette Wennmacher at 309-999-3842.

Backpack Program

The Backpack Program helps hungry children by providing them with nutritious, child-friendly and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations when other resources are not available. We assist several pantries that provide backpacks to hundreds of children on the weekend.  For more information, contact Jeanette at 309-999-3842.
